After 15 long years of separation, Jameela has finally been reunited with her mother and brother, a reunion filled with tears, gratitude, and hope. This emotional success story reflects the unwavering commitment of Mera Pyara – Virtual Center for Child Safety, an initiative of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), dedicated to reuniting lost and found kids with their families.
Jameela, a hearing and speech-impaired child, went missing from her home in 2011. Unable to communicate her name, home address, or family details, she was found alone by a kind citizen who ensured her safety by taking her to an Edhi shelter home.
For the next 15 years, Jameela remained under the care of the Edhi Foundation, where she was provided with shelter, protection, and care. Although she was looked after with compassion, she remained separated from her family, who continued to live with the pain of not knowing where their daughter was.
In July 2024, Mera Pyara – Virtual Center for Child Safety was established under the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) with a nationwide mission to identify and reunite missing children and vulnerable individuals with their loved ones.
As part of this mission, Mera Pyara teams regularly visit shelter homes across Pakistan to document unidentified individuals, collect their information, create digital records, and record short interview videos. These interviews are shared through Mera Pyara’s official social media platforms, giving families across the country an opportunity to recognize their missing loved ones.
During the visit to the shelter home, the Mera Pyara team conducted Jameela’s interview. Because of her hearing and speech impairment, she was unable to provide any useful information about her family or hometown. Nevertheless, her interview was carefully documented and shared through Mera Pyara’s official Facebook page as part of the ongoing public awareness campaign.
Soon after the video was published, an unexpected breakthrough changed everything.
One of Jameela’s former neighbors watched the interview and immediately recognized her. The neighbor contacted the Mera Pyara team and provided valuable information about her family, making it possible to trace her relatives after many years.
Following detailed verification, coordination with the concerned authorities, and completion of all legal formalities, Jameela was safely reunited with her mother and brother.
The reunion was deeply emotional. After 15 years of separation, a mother finally embraced her daughter once again, while her brother stood beside them, witnessing a moment they had waited years to see. It was a reunion that restored hope to an entire family.
Stories like Jameela’s demonstrate the importance of community participation in child protection. Sometimes, a single person recognizing a face can change someone’s life forever.
Through technology, shelter home visits, social media awareness, and public cooperation, Mera Pyara – Virtual Center for Child Safety continues its mission to identify, trace, and reunite missing children and vulnerable individuals with their families across Pakistan.
Every successful reunification is another reminder that no matter how many years pass, hope should never be lost.
