For fourteen years, Basharat Ahmad lived with one unanswered question: Where is my son?
Every passing year made the search more difficult, but it never took away a father’s hope. That hope was finally rewarded when Abdul Samad, who had been separated from his family for nearly fourteen years, was reunited with his father through the efforts of Mera Pyara – Virtual Center for Child Safety (VCCS), an initiative of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).
Abdul Samad belonged to Chunian, District Kasur. After becoming separated from his family many years ago, he was unable to return home. While his family continued searching, there was no reliable information about where he was or how to reach him.
In July 2024, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority launched Mera Pyara – Virtual Center for Child Safety with a clear objective: to identify missing and unidentified children and vulnerable individuals and reconnect them with their families. Since then, Mera Pyara teams have been visiting shelter homes across Pakistan, documenting unidentified individuals, recording interviews, and building a national digital database to support family tracing.
Every recorded interview is more than just a video. It is another opportunity for someone, somewhere, to recognize a familiar face.
During this nationwide campaign, Abdul Samad’s interview was recorded and published on Mera Pyara’s official social media platforms. The video was further promoted to reach audiences across Pakistan and overseas, increasing the chances that someone who knew him would come forward.
That decision changed everything.
Thousands of kilometres away in Saudi Arabia, Basharat Ahmad came across the video on social media. Within moments, he recognized the young man on the screen as his lost son. After years of uncertainty, he immediately contacted the Mera Pyara team and provided the information needed to begin the reunification process.
The team carefully completed every stage of family tracing, document verification, and legal formalities to ensure the identity was fully confirmed. Once all verification requirements had been fulfilled, Abdul Samad was safely reunited with his father and family.
The reunion was filled with emotion. Fourteen years of separation disappeared in a single embrace as a father finally held his son again. What had once seemed impossible became reality, bringing comfort, happiness, and peace back to an entire family.
