Special Child Shumaila Reunited After 15 Years

In a world full of uncertainty, stories of hope shine the brightest. One such emotional and beautiful story is about Shumaila, a special child who is finally reunited with her parents after 15 long years. The reunion brought tears to everyone’s eyes and reminded us that miracles truly happen.

A Special Child, Shumaila, Lost With No Identity

In 2010, the police in Landhi, Karachi, found little Shumaila, and she was lost from Attock, but she ended up in Karachi somehow. She was mentally unstable and could not speak properly. She could not tell anyone her home address, her parents’ names, or any details about herself. Because of this, the police could not find her family and handed her over to the Edhi Centre Karachi, where she lived for 15 years.

Imagine how lonely she must have felt as a child who could not explain who she was or where she belonged.

On the other side were her parents, crying and searching endlessly. For years, they lived with pain, fear, and helplessness, not knowing where their daughter was or if she was even alive.

They never lost hope, but after many years, even their strength started to fade. Still, their hearts kept praying.

The Mera Pyara Effort That Made the Miracle Possible

This miracle happened because of the brave and dedicated work of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) under the project:

Mera Pyara – Virtual Center for Child Safety.”

As the Largest Child Safety Lost and Found Center, Mera Pyara Team did not give up. We travelled thousands of kilometres from Lahore to Karachi, visited Edhi homes, interviewed unidentified children, Special Person, and shared their interviews on official social media so families could recognize them.

And then, Allah’s mercy changed everything.

One day, Shumaila’s father saw a video shared by the Mera Pyara - Virtual Center for Child Safety. The moment he saw the child's video, he recognized her as his lost daughter, named Shumaila. This single moment brought light into the darkness of 15 years.

A Reunion Filled With Tears and Prayers

When the family finally met after 15 painful years, it was a moment no words can fully describe. Tears rolled down their faces. They hugged each other tightly. They thanked Allah again and again.

Her father cried while telling the story and said,
“We just wanted to reach our daughter as fast as possible.”

Her mother fell into sajda (prostration) and thanked Allah for this miracle.

Parents Who Never Gave Up

When her parents found out what had happened, their emotions were overwhelming.
Her father said, “This happiness is so big that I cannot even control it.”

Her mother shared the heartbreaking journey of the past years:

  • She said they tried everything, putting posters on walls, in newspapers, on rickshaws, and even at railway stations.

  • They searched the entire city, cried every day, and prayed constantly.

  • She said, “We asked Allah every day. We don’t know which prayer was left. We only wanted one thing, our daughter back.”

Shumaila was a special child, and her parents were scared that if too much time passed, she might forget them because of her weak memory.

The Role of Edhi Foundation

The video of this reunion also included a short interview with Faisal Edhi, son of the late Abdul Sattar Edhi. The Edhi Foundation cared for Shumaila for all these years with love and responsibility, just as they care for thousands of other orphans and unidentified children.

May Allah reward the entire Edhi team for their selfless service. Ameen.
